He was the most interesting director, more than a director, he was an actor, director, producer, writer, and in the 1980s, he even turned his attention to opera.

François Truffaut once proclaimed Werner Herzog as “the most important film director alive”. Often uncompromising, his films are at once challenging and ambitious. Herzog has received numerous awards for his work, highlighting his directing, producing and writing talents. He’s considered a major influence amongst film-makers today.

"These portraits were taken during the filming of Nosferatu the Vampyre, which was shot in Delft in the Netherlands. He was very relaxed on the set and I was able to capture these off camera moments. I have no idea why he is holding a hawk, as he was much more into mice!"
